HFHDF Housing

Cave Creek, Arizona, USA (2005)

The program for this project was to plan a small residential neighborhood of sixteen units for Habitat for Humanity. Two parcels were joined to create a rectangular lot of .93 acres – there was to be a common parking area in the central portion of the site and the 1,200 square foot homes were to be positioned on the east and west ends.

Our solution offers two distinct types of residences. On the higher western side of the site we created ten ‘stack’ units. These are all two-story residences that interlock with one another and create entry courts and circulation passages in between. On the lower eastern side of the site we created six ‘slide’ units – these are one-story linear homes that have public patios in the front and private bedroom patios in the rear. Each residence has a shed pitched roof to bring northern light into the core of the home.
